Astronomy & Space Science Academy

Concept

The design of the academy draws direct inspiration from the Solar System, using its cosmic order as both a symbolic and spatial framework. At the heart of the project lies the “Sun”, serving as the intellectual and symbolic core—the source from which all activity, energy, and knowledge radiate. Surrounding this central hub are three concentric rings, each representing a group of planets and a distinct functional zone

The Public Ring (Inner Planets – Mercury, Venus): functions as the dynamic entry zone, hosting temporary visitors through lively and fast-paced spaces such as a planetarium, exhibition halls, and observation terraces.

The Educational Ring (Middle Planets – Earth, Mars): forms the academic nucleus, containing classrooms, laboratories, a library, and research facilities for students and scholars engaged in long-term learning.

The Residential Ring (Outer Planets – Saturn, Neptune): offers housing and communal courtyards for professors and students, fostering interaction, reflection, and a sense of continuity within the academic community.

The central courtyard acts as a social core, It integrates greenery and a water feature, creating a calm and refreshing environment. The space supports gathering, relaxation, and informal activities, enhancing community life within the building.

Movement through the academy is conceived as an orbital journey, with circulation paths reflecting the motion of celestial bodies. Visitors experience both horizontal and vertical transitions that create a layered, dynamic spatial rhythm. A transitional immersive room bridges the permanent and temporary exhibition spaces, evoking the sensation of entering the vastness of outer space and reinforcing the emotional link to the cosmos.
